Creating safe and inclusive spaces 🥰 As part of the 10-year anniversary celebrations for our LGBTQIA+ network, GLOW, the network Steer Co have been hosting Community Hub Events across the business - creating safe spaces for members of the LGBTQIA+ community throughout Whitbread. These events give our teams the opportunity to talk, share stories and connect with Whitbread's LGBTQIA+community and allies, all while enjoying a safe and welcoming environment. Our latest Community Hub event was held in Birmingham, and with many more in the pipeline, we’re really proud to facilitate these spaces to build community and connection. “I’m on my third apprenticeship at Whitbread…and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!” 👏 Personal development is so important to Helen, and when she learned she could do an apprenticeship alongside her role at Premier Inn, she jumped at the opportunity 🤩 Helen joined us in 2018 after an unexpected career change and in that time has gone from being a housekeeper to now managing four hotels. “I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved - I didn’t want to be a 53-year-old doing a job that didn’t make me proud,” Helen says. “I’m a really motivated individual who loves to learn, so being at Whitbread really suited me - if I don’t keep learning, I’ll go stale!” Apprenticeships have been a huge part of Helen’s journey with us; she even won the apprentice of the year award! It’s never too late to start in hospitality ❌ Zoe was reluctant to join us in her late twenties, fearing it was too late as she’d never poured a pint in her life… It’s been over a decade since then and here’s just some of the incredible things she’s achieved with us 👇 📈 Progressed through multiple roles, most recently to a General Manager 5️⃣ Achieved a double distinction in her Level 5 apprenticeship 🤩 Built a career somewhere she hoped would just be a temporary break from a corporate office life From the day she joined, Zoe loved the hospitality environment and knew it was where she wanted to be. Last week we partnered with our apprenticeship provider Lifetime Training for a two-day Culture Conference, designed to immerse the Lifetime team in all things Whitbread. Hosted by Lifetime and packed with Whitbread guest speakers, here’s just some of what the event included 👇 🤩 Business updates and a fun game for the team to explore our new values 📲 A session on how to improve your social media presence 🍽️ A deep dive into our Level 2 Production Chef apprenticeship 📈 A chance to learn about other internal progression opportunities we offer The second day wrapped up with plenty of recognition, celebration, and reflection, and also offered an opportunity to look ahead to the coming year. Sian, our Partnership Manager, said: “It was actually the first time all of us as a team have been together at Whitbread’s Support Centre, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue to hold the conference. "It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to immerse themselves into the culture at Whitbread. We’re wrapping up Housekeeping Appreciation Week 🥳 With over 800 hotels, it’s no surprise our Housekeepers mean a lot to us. We’ve spent the past week celebrating with treats, team breakfasts and even running a competition to win a robot vacuum! Regional Operations Manager Laura, who joined us as a Housekeeper 24 years ago says, “In my 24 years at Whitbread, I’ve seen first hand the impact our amazing housekeeping teams have and I’m incredibly grateful for the solid grounding I was given when I joined as a Housekeeper myself. The incredible team I started with taught me everything I know and I still use the knowledge from all those years back in my role today! Their hard work behind the scenes makes all the difference and ensures that our guests have a clean and comfortable room. Thank you for everything you do, we couldn’t do it without you!"
