I joined Whitbread when I was looking to transition from having a job to having a career. I had friends who worked here, and it felt like the right place to make that move. I knew I wanted to be challenged, and be in an environment where I could progress, and I soon found that Whitbread was the right fit for me.

 

There’s a real fluidity here, with no barriers when it comes to approaching senior members of the team. The CFO and CEO sit in the open-plan office with us, and they’re accessible to everyone. It helps to build a really strong collaborative mentality, and that in itself is motivating. Leaders ask ‘what do you think?’ and as a result you feel like you’re empowered to make changes in what it is a really big organisation.

 

I’m an extravert so my energy comes from being around other people. Having a laugh, having the personal rapport, and then being able to get into real debate and unpick creative tensions and decisions that surface.

 

Whitbread taught me that I was putting obstacles in the way of my own development. From that point, I was able to move past these barriers, and unlock a shift in mindset. Now, I take on projects and opportunities that I previously would have shied away from. There’s no more “I can’t do this” and just “how can I make this work better?”
