The Lead Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for the creation and development of the Technology strategy for a given area of Whitbread’s business, working closely with key business stakeholders, Technology Platform owners and the rest of the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure a coherent and focused approach to how we develop our technology estate across our core business functions and to drive our international business. The role provides the Architectural Governance across the given domain, both in terms of representing the Domain at the Architectural Review Committee, and also running their own Architecture Forum, covering all change and productions issues across their area of responsibilities. |
Experience:
- Experience of building and operating modern digital platforms, including the development of Portfolio Analysis, Target Architectures, and multi-year roadmaps
- Experience of working up to Board level, in terms of capturing requirements, and acting as their key technology partner in their area of expertise.
- Experience of Business Process Re-engineering and modelling

- Great communication skills
- Strong team building and mentoring skills and excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong analysis and design skills across multiple business areas, platforms and technologies, understanding the whole context. You can look beyond the immediate technical problem and identify the wider implications. You can ‘zoom out’ in 3 dimensions: knowing relevant historical context and future impact; understanding how current work fits in broader contexts and strategies; and looking for deeper underlying problems and opportunities.
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, portfolio analysis and roadmap development
- Strong understanding of Architectural Frameworks, such as TOGAF, Open Group
- Understanding of the principles of modular design, also known as “composable design” to help develop high performing, flexible architectures capable of adapting to business change
