Starting
out
in the
kitchen

Every great chef starts somewhere. You may not have the technical know-how yet, but if you’ve got the passion, energy and right way of thinking, you’re already well on your way. We can help with the rest. Joining the Whitbread family as a trainee gives you the opportunity to build all the skills you need for a future in food. For starters, you’ll be working alongside some of the best teams around – who are all ready and willing to help you master the menu and figure your way around the work stations.
With our structured induction programme, it doesn’t matter how new you are to the kitchen – our dedicated restaurant trainer will be on hand to support you as you slice, simmer and serve your way through the basics. After that, you’ll have the chance to progress your skills through additional training online, on site and through our first-class kitchen academies – with the additional incentive of pay rises for each stage you complete. After that? With hundreds of kitchens and thousands of opportunities in roles at every level, it really is up to you.
We call our trainee Chef roles ‘Team Member – Kitchen’. Have a search for current opportunities in your area or register for job alerts.

What I do
They say variety is the spice of life, and you’ll find plenty of that in this role. You’ll be equipped with the skills to prepare, cook and present food to the highest standards, on time, every time. As you make our starters and desserts your specialty, you’ll ensure the kitchen delivers great food for our customers – all while keeping every workspace perfectly clean. You’ll have everyone’s backs, jumping in to support your team mates, helping out wherever you’re needed – always with a smile.
How we
do things
You'll often hear us talking about Whitbread as a family, because we all feel like we belong. We understand each other and share the same values. That's what pulls us together and brings our customers back. It's just how we do things here.
